It stands for Polycystic Kidney Disease and Andrew, the boy I babysit, and his mother, Becca, both have it. It's a disease where cysts grow on their kidneys. There is no cure for it yet. We had a walk for PKD in Providence last weekend and they raised 20,000 to donate for researching a cure! I'm writing about it because few people have ever heard of it, yet it's more common than cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy, hemophilia, Down syndrome and sickle cell anemia — combined.
